 TUBERCULOSIS
Tuberculosis is a wide spread communicable disease  it is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by various strains of organism or bacteria known as mycobacterium. Tuberculosis can also be referred to koch's disease
it is spread through the air when people who have an active tuberculosis infection cough, sneezing or otherwise transmit respiratory fluids through the air. There is another strain which is responsible for the disease in cattle called mycobacterium bovis which can be acquired by man through consumption of unpasteurized milk.

BASIC FACTS ABOUT TUBERCULOSIS

-Tuberculosis is the second biggest killer globally
-Tuberculosis cases rapidly grew in the mid-80's
-Tuberculosis was declared by world health organisation(WHO) as a global emergency
-In 2015 over 1.8million people died from the disease and 9million people a year get sick with tuberculosis according to (WHO).

TYPES OF TUBERCULOSIS
1. Primary tuberculosis
2. Secondary tuberculosis

Primary tuberculosis; This occurs mainly in children and young adults. The most common mode of manifestation is the lung tuberculosis. The organism enters the lung through inhalation of infected sputum. As the organism settles in the lung it multiplies and induce inflammatory reaction.

Secondary tuberculosis; When the primary focus breaks down and spreads into the blood, the organism can spread to various part of the body for example the brain, kidneys etc to give rise to secondary tuberculosis.

FACTORS THAT CAN LEAD TO TUBERCULOSIS IN MAN.
1.Dose of the organisms.
2.The immunity of the individual.
3.Age and sex.
4.General health of the individual.
5.Occupational factors-miners,heavy steel workers.
6.Stress.

SYMPTOMS OF TUBERCULOSIS

symptoms

-Chronic cough that last up to two weeks.
-Weight loss of more than 10kg.
-Excessive night sweat.
-Persistant fever.
-Chest pain.
-Dizziness.
-Joint pain.
-Nausea and vomitting.

WAYS OF PREVENTING TUBERCULOSIS INFECTION
Use of Vaccines; The use of Bacillus calmette-guerin(BCG)are given to children to help reduce the risk of infection by 20% and the risk of infection turning into disease by nearly 60% but the immunity it induces decreases after about 10years.
In some extreme cases it requires extensive courses of chemotheraphy, which can be expensive and cause severe adverse drug reaction in patients.

TOP FIVE COUNTRIES WITH HIGHER TUBERCULOSIS RATES
*Africa-particularly West Africa and Sub-saharan.
*Afghanistan.
*South East Asia-Pakistan,India,Bangladesh and Indonesia.
*China.
*Russia.
