               Gonorrhea is a highly contagious sexual transmitted disease caused by bacterium neisseriaSometimes  referred to as clap.The nickname of the clap refers to a treatment that is used to clear the blockage  in the urethra from gonorrhea pus,where the penis would be clapped on both sides simultaneously.
     However,this gonorrhea treatment is rarely used today,though the nomenclature remains.Gonorrhea is characterized by thick discharge from the penis or vaginal. furthermore, Gonorrhea may infect the rectum,throat,eyes,blood and skin.

SYMPTOMS OF GONORRHEA FOR MEN AND WOMEN.
  1/2 of women and 1/10 of men who have gonorrhea have no symptoms at all.Women symptoms can include;
-Frequent urination.

-Discharge from the vagina.

-Strong smelling vaginal discharge that maybe thin and watery or thick and yellow or green.

-Irritation or discharge from the anus.

-Abnormal vaginal bleeding.

-Possibly some low abdominal or pelvic tenderness.

-Pain or burning sensation when passing urine.

-Abdominal pain sometimes with nausea.

-Fever.

-Painful sexual intercourse.

SYMPTOMS IN MEN
-White,yellow or green thick discharge from the tip of penis.

-Inflammation of the testicles and prostate gland.

-Irritation or discharge from the anus.

-Urethral itch and pain or burning sensation when passing urine.

-Red,swollen,warm,painful joints.

CAUSES OF GONORRHEA
     Gonorrhea is caused by the growth and proliferation of the bacteria neisseria gonorrhoeae. The disease can survive in the eye,rectum,throat,mouth,vagina or skin.This means that it can be transmitted through any variety of sexual contact.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION
Gonorrhea spreads through semen or vaginal fluids during unprotected sexual contact,heterosexual or homosexual with an infected partner.

-Vaginal or anal sex with an infected partner.

-Touching parts of the body with fingers(for example,touching the private parts and then the eyes).

-From a mother to her baby ta birth.

-The bacteria can be passed from hand to hand(very rare isolated cases).

TREATMENT OF GONORRHEA
  Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection it can be treated with antibiotics.Antibiotics for the infection can be taken orally or via injection(ceftriaxone).

-Abstaining from every sexual activities until medication completion.

-Feeling better does not always mean that the infection is gone.Medical professionals will advice that any infected person should notify everyone with whom they have had relationship with in the past month about the infection.

GONORRHEA PREVENTION
   There are various ways to prevent gonorrhea
-Using condoms or dental dams for oral intercourse.

-Using condoms for vaginal or anal intercourse.

-Abstinence from sex.

-Having sexual activity with a mutually monogamous,unaffected partner.
