Women must maintain a certain level of personal hygiene. Although for some they choose to care-less about some basic hygiene practices. Our bodies literally houses millions to billions of bacteria, in which they all have various purposes. It is imperative to maintain a healthy balance between the vaginal flora that are dominated by various lactobacillus species (helps protect the vaginal) and bacteria such as yeast infections and bacteria vaginosis (which are harmful to the vaginal).  While it depends somewhat on various factors such as; a woman's age, hormonal imbalance and pH of the vagina e.t.c, the vaginal generally produces an acidic pH, which contains bacteria that are beneficial to the vagina and help keeps it lubricated.
Although, the human body naturally takes care of itself and requires little help from us. Good simple and personal hygiene for women is a good head start to maintain a healthy vagina.

Thus, following this steps will help you maintain a healthy vagina:
Avoid douching! Normally, some women uses douching as a means of covering the strong smell that comes out from the vagina by using soaps or vagina cleansers. The vagina has a pH of about 3.8 to 4.5, indulging in douching can interfere with the pH of the vagina which can result to disrupting a healthy biome-and setting the stage for bacterial infections.

A healthy diet an happy vagina: Eating well and exercising frequently has a direct or indirect impact on the condition of the vagina. Infact, certain foods may be effective in treating vaginal health problems and make your vagina smell better (pineapple, for instance and garlic). Also, It is medically advisable for women to consume more yogurt as it can help inhibit any growth of harmful bacteria and treatment of yeast infections, incase you are wondering how does yogurt prevent yeast infections?.

Yogurt is rich in probiotics, especially plain greek yogurt, so a woman who frequently suffers from yeast infection, taking a probiotic that is rich in lactoballi  or eating plain Greek yogurt everyday can be of much help.

Safe sex No problem! If you can't abstain, then practising safe sex must always be on the card- using condoms during sex helps and avoid sharing sex toys with your partner helps protect you against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as HIV, gonorrhea, human papillomavirus- can cause genital warts, are known to cause cancer. You must avoid using one condom when switching from anal sex to vaginal sex, to prevent the introduction of harmful bacteria into the vagina.

Avoid wearing tight underwear: You must ensure you avoid putting on tight clothing that can pave way for bacteria to grow. Wear loose or breathable underwears so they're not riding up your crotch all day long and if you experience frequent discharge and dampness during the day, it is wise if you change your underwears often or take two pairs of underwear with you everyday when you go to work or school, these will help keep your vagina condition in good shape and make you feel more comfortable.

Maintain a good hygiene: Wash your underwears daily especially after exercise- with a mild and gentle cleanser to avoid disrupting the pH level of the vagina and replace your sanitary pads and tampons regularly during your period. Also, after a bowel movement, wipe from front to back to avoid any bacteria contamination of the vagina and lower the risk of you having a bladder infection. Keeping up a good hygiene puts the vagina in a good condition.

Use a good lube: Using a good lube is very important, without it the skin of the vagina can become irritated and should be carefully selected especially for those suffering from vagina dryness associated with menopause or some women who do not produce enough natural lubricant. For a woman who has no intention of getting pregnant, water-based, silicon based, and oil-based lubricants are fine, depending on your needs.
